Beersmith 2 equipment profile
Personally I got my used Grolsch bottles for $0.25 each at the bottle recycling shop. The same is probably true of amber glass flip-tops LHBS sell, which are available for $24 / dozen at mine. The only thing that happens is that the bottom breaks off in a disc. If they break, and I have only ever had one break, they don't shatter and send glass flying everywhere.
They are very sturdy and are able to withstand 4.5 volumes of pressure. One reason that people might shy away from glass bottles is because of fear of exploding bottles / bottle bombs. I would like to put a plug in for the safety of Grolsch bottles. Cost effective? Not! Especially not if I have to buy new ones every 10-12 cycles.

I can't imagine spending $172 plus 15% tax and $10 for shipping. Then set your liquor to grist ratio at 1.3 qts/lb, and BeerSmith will calculate the proper mash in volume, as well as how much sparse water to use to reach your pre-boil volume. After perusing the various features I noticed fairly quickly how important it is to make your own equipment profile for the equipment you own in order to get accurate data on the recipes you create. A box of 24 500mL (I would not want the 740mL size) Coopers PET bottles sells for $86 on Amazon.ca. There’s an option for full-volume BIAB, uncheck that, uncheck the option for drain before sparging, and it will set you up for fly sparging. Just bought beersmith 2.0 last evening and it looks like it is going to be an awesome tool for my recipe formulations. Anyone have a good source for tried-and-true M&B profile Press J to jump to the feed. PETs are cost effective? I guess that depends on where you live. Embarrassingly, I have been using the Robobrew profile on Beersmith since I got the M&B. You can create recipes, batches for a recipe (and take notes throughout your batch), clone other recipes to change them slightly, post tutorials for other. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this discrepancy? I'm guessing my equipment profile might be throwing the calculations off, but I'm not sure how. That side-by-side experiment your are planning should be interesting. I'm using the preset hop type adjustments and an equipment profile for the Grainfather. For lower IBU beers it's not a huge deal, but I'd like to strive for accuracy.įor example, a recent pale ale I brewed brought me the following IBU calculations:īeersmith calculates less for the longer additions but significantly more (around 50%) for the shorter time addtitions. Specifically, Beersmith calculates more IBUs in the shorter boils. One thing I noticed recently, to my surprise, was that my IBU calculations in Beersmith show up a fair bit higher than they would in online calculators.

Simply download the specific profiles you need and then select them when. On the web version you can go to Profiles->Equipment and click on Manage Preloaded, and the mobile version has an Add-on button on the main menu. I mostly use Beersmith 2 for recipe building (and then play around with other calculators/formulas to fine tune). On the desktop, go to Profiles->Equipment and then click on the Equip Add-ons button to display and download various systems.
